HEPI
Haiti Education and Production Initiatives (HEPI) is a 501(c)(3) working with the people in Haiti living in the Artibonite Department in rural Haiti. HEPI’s mission is to help the people of Haiti have a better quality of life. Our focus is two-fold: education for the children of Haiti and training for the parents of these children with skills that can provide an opportunity to earn an income. HEPI has been working in Haiti for about 10 years.
All donations to HEPI are tax deductible.
Our first efforts in Haiti were with the cut-metal artisans in Croix des Bouquets, a town about 15 miles east of Port au Prince. Today we work with about 50 of the more than 300 artisans in Croix des Bouquet and can provide custom-made pieces for any person, Church, city or organization. From there we began teaching the women in the rural areas how to crochet, knit, sew and other handcraft skills. We buy the products these women make and sell them in the US through Haiti Creations of Hope.
HEPI’s primary focus is on education for children and adults. The majority of HEPI’s work is done in the community of LaChapelle in the Artibonite Department.
HEPI discovered there are hundreds of children in LaChapelle not attending school because parents cannot afford to pay tuition, which ranges from $100 to $200 USD annually. HEPI’s Sponsor a Child Program is assisting these families.
HEPI is actively involved in projects that will help to provide stable employment for the people who live in LaChapelle. Discussions with members of the community have provided a list of projects HEPI will pursue in our efforts to help the residents of LaChapelle have a better quality of life. Some of these projects may not seem essential to the outside observer, but these are the things that are important to the community of LaChapelle
